The first week of school of 2010.

The orientation week is over and it's time for serious work. Before that, let's take a look at some pictures taken during one of the level bonding games - Telematch.

Here's the first game. It requires the pupils to move the hula hoop from the first pupil to the last in the row with their hands held together.

Here are the snapshots of the second game which requires the pupils to work in pairs to transport the ball to the basket.

Nurturing this batch of "seedlings" from P5, I hope they will be ready for their challenges at the end of this year.

Likewise, I hope my batch of "seedlings" which will be collecting their 'O' levels results tomorrow will be proud of their results. I will be awaiting for their good news. :)

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May all your wishes come true.

I'm back and ready to catch the Shinkansen with my kiddos. So, are my kiddos ready for 2010?

Here are some pictures to share with you what I have been up to lately.

1st row (L to R) I befriended Doraemon, asked the god if you guys will pass with good results for PSLE and pretended to visit a little girl in a 2D picture.

2nd row (Lto R) I visited Fuji-san and befriended the friendly locals.

3rd row (L to R) I caught the Shinkansen (Bullet train) and visited a UNESCO Heritage Site in a snow storm.

4th row (L to R) I saw the Engetsuto where I'm supposed to see the sun set through the hole in the rock and took a walk on Shirahama Beach where there was hardly anyone around.

Hmm, I wonder what my kiddos have been up to lately and they will have to share when school re-opens.

Interview with the Professionals

Kudos to the 5 parents. 1 sister and 2 overseas friends who took part in our EL program - Interview with the Professionals on 14 August 2009.

It was truly an engaging and enriching experience for both the interviewees and the little interviewers.

Once again, a big "Thank You" for participating actively in our programs. Without your support, this program would not be a success.

It's APBL week!

The pupils have been given a task to save the withering plants of our Wall Garden - Hortus Eliascus.

Each group has been given a plant to adopt for a week and they have to try and find out the root of the problem.

These pupils will have to make decisions like how much water to give to the plants and where to place the plants based on their needs.

By the end of the week, they will have to prepare a proposal using Microsoft PowerPoint to propose a solution based on their findings to save the plants of our Hortus Eliascus. In order to do that, they will have to work together to discuss what to present ... ...

and how to present the ideas.

We went to Road Safety Park on 2 Feb 2009. It was a hot day but I'm sure the pupils had fun while learning to abide by the safety rules. Here are some evidence:

The pupils role played to be pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. They had to call on the different check points according to the sequence stated in their logcards. Pupils who did not abide by the safety rules were given demerit points by the 'policemen' or 'policewomen' on duty.
I hope my pupils will remember a tip or two learned from this activity and apply them on the real public roads.

Alright, so PSLE is over but there are still 3 weeks to go before the end of the term.
Before that happens, here are some updates for the remaining time as an Eliasian seedling.

October 31 -> Visit to the Science Centre (I need a parent helper)
November 3 & 4 -> Garage Sale
November 5 -> Learning Journey @ Sungei Buloh (bring along ur binoculors) *
November 7 -> PROM Nite for P6 grads
November 12 -> CIP @ Red Cross (I need a parent helper) *
November 14 -> Prize Giving Day aka last day of school
November 20 -> Release of PSLE results (Report to sch by 11.45am dressed in sch uniform)

International Friendship Day (11-4-2008)

The Primary Six classes were supposed to showcase the animation clips that they had prepared. We used Xing Hao's animation on India and of course, he did a good job! Well, seeing is believing, happy viewing!

Twinning Programme in Xian (3/3/08 - 12/3/08)

Four teachers led a group of twenty-four Primary Five pupils to Xian for an exchange. We have indeed gained many meaningful insights and experience during the trip.

The pupils tried to put on their best behaviour whenever possible. They were able to line up neatly when we wanted them to. They followed instructions and fed themselves well.

It was truly an enriching and unforgetable learning experience for all of us.

Total Defence Day 2008

Today the school commemorated Total Defence Day. We had an enriching experience with the help of the SAF personnel.

We even tried to imagine the life of the NSmen by carrying their pack, donning their uniform and making these things look cool.

Time to rest our feet? We found 2 lovely jeeps... and a 5 tonner...camouflaged.

We really enjoyed ourselves while learning more about our Military Defence.

Remember, everyone has a part in Total Defence, so let's play our part.

Yoz..I'm back from India!

What an eye-opening experience! Boy, am I glad to be back. Of course, every trip I take, I'll learn something from it. From this trip, I've learned to be more appreciative of what we have in Singapore, we are truly more fortunate than them in many ways!

Let me share some of my pictures with you! These were taken in Kashmir.

Counting down to the last week of a school year and also the last week of attending lessons in a primary school. Soon it will be time for us to part... On 2 Aug, we did our Community Involvement Programme (CIP) at the old folks corner in Aljunied area. They sang and performed for the appreciative old folks. Here are some pictures taken during the activity.

Of course, the pupils also learned to treat these old folks with respect by serving them biscuits and chatting with them. Not forgetting to bring smiles and cheer to them.

Through such meaningful activity, I hope my pupils have learned to treat the older folks with respect. Remember, if you want Respect from others, you'll have to learn to Respect them first!

Hey, hey, hey

We started the mini lecture-style lessons today where different teachers are assigned to handle different groups of pupils.

My class combined with another was lectured Mdm Maisarah (EL), Mrs Singh (Maths) and Miss Imelda (Sci). I'm sure they had fun being exposed to other teachers' teaching styles.

As for me, I was 'lecturing' the group of pupils from Honesty(half), Kindness(half), Loyalty(full) and Peace(full).

It was a new experience for me and I hope this project will be a success! :)

Hi folks,

How's everyone doing? I've made a trip to the famous Hell Valley (Jigokudani) at Noboribetsu so be prepared to be "tortured" by me when term starts. kekeke

This trip was an eye-opener for me..I've learned many things from it. I've observed extreme patience and good manners of the Japanese throughout the trip. Many of them are willing to go the extra mile for the benefit of others and everyone, e.g. moving to the back of the bus.

Oh yes, I've made some new friends along the way too....Of course, I've learned something from them which is "You are never too old to learn something new". The second lady from the left used to be an English teacher thus she was able to communicate with us. The man on her right is her husband who is learning English. The older man on her left is her current student learning IT skills. I really applaud their spirit of learning! Mind you, the older couple had just trekked in Nepal earlier this year. They are really as fit as a fiddle!

No school these two days for my kiddos...physically but they have to access the Internet from home to do their e-learning from their e-learning portal which I have linked to here.
As for me, I'll be busy meeting up with their parents for heart-to-heart talk. Boy, I'll be thirsty!

Today, I met a real nasty man! Unbelievable! He jay-walked with his son across the road in front of the school while I was doing my road crossing duty. I approached him and advised him to use the appropriate pedestrian crossing. Instead of feeling ashamed, he started telling me that he was not breaking any laws. I was not talking to him about laws!!!! I was talking about what he is "educating" his son! I really wonder why would a parent want to subject his/her child to such dangers!
He even challenged me to book him next time which I corrected him that I'll book his son the next time. Boy, he was mad, he threatened to report me to the MOE....What a joke... So much for being an educator who is trying to stand by what I think is right!
Sigh, what is this world becoming to?

Water-checked, fertilizers & nutrients-checked, tender loving care-checked!

A brand new year with brand new challenges for me. I have been given a really challenging task that requires me to race against time. I have to grow a garden full of healthy plants which are strong enough to brave through rough and difficult times in the shortest possible time.

Can I do it? I'll give my best so when the storm comes, I'll face it squarely with my plants. Are my plants ready to brave stormy weather? Only time can tell.

Ho ho ho....Merry X'mas (though a little late). I trust my little plants are doing well, right?

The new school term is just around the corner so are you ready for a year of hard work? Ahem, have you bought all your books? As for which class I'll be taking in 2007, answer will be revealed on the 1st day of school (3 Jan 2007, Wednesday).

Well, I have been away in Taiwan and survived the Earthquake. Honestly speaking, I did not feel a thing and was unaware about it until folks from Singapore starting checking on us! However, I did feel the earlier tremors (5 on the Richter Scale) when I was in Hualien. The whole building (I was in the hotel) shook for 14 sec. Quite scary. What an experience!

Ok, I shall stop here... have a fun-filled weekend and I'll see you in school next year.

How time flies...another academic year is coming to an end...I'm doing this post with mixed feelings.
Happy because many of my "little seedlings" have grown "stronger" and "healthier" yet sad only to realise how attached I've grown to these "little seedlings".

Well, all good things must come to an end, right? I'm proud of my seedlings and I'm sure they'll continue to make me feel proud of them even when they are in the hands of other "gardeners".
So, let's have some fun since school's out.

Don't forget we have a date on 27th Nov 2006 (Monday) at Pasir Ris MRT station. We'll be heading for GV Tampines to watch 'Happy Feet'.

HAPPY CHILDREN'S DAY!!!!
This greeting goes out to all my current pupils, ex-pupils, friends and colleagues and everyone young at heart!!!

Today is also a very special day for a special friend because it's her BIG DAY.
Congrats to Weining & Kian Chan. Wishing you a blissful marriage & May You Live Happily Ever After....hee hee hee...how cliche... nevermind...good phrases are meant to be used over & over again, isn't it? :P

Weining is my long-time friend, we've known each other since primary school! So my pupils, you never know, maybe 15-20 yrs later, you'll attend the wedding of your classmates who used to sit in front, behind or next to you. Cool, eh?

Hmm, can't wait to see how pretty she'll look tonite. I'll add in the pics if I get to snap some wif her later on.

It's Show Time!!!! My kiddos performed with frens from 5H on Monday. They had stage fright..OMG!!!!..How unbelievable...*faint* Anyway they share a poem on Respect which is the class value.
The poem was an effort of the whole class and this is how it goes,

Yesterday, we had a cooking lesson! We made popcorns in the Science Lab. What an experience!

I modified a campfire popcorn recipe to be a Sci Lab popcorn recipe. I hoped my pupils had fun and learned a trick or two. In the end, some had the chance to taste their end-product while others...could only juz watch....as theirs were burnt!

For those who wants to try again at home or at a campfire...here's the recipe

Prep: 5 min, Cook: 10 min.
1 Tbs. plus 1 tsp. oil
1/4 cup unpopped popcorn
aluminum foil
4 wooden sticks
1/2 tsp. salt, or to taste
2 tsp. butter, melted, optional
Put oil and popcorn in the center of a large piece of foil. Fold the corners of the foil to make a pouch. Tie pouch to a stick and hold over campfire. Shake constantly until all the popcorn pops. Top with salt and melted butter if desired.

Pls do it only with your parents' permission or supervision!!!!

During the last week of Term 1, we swung into APBL (Authentic Problem Based Learning) mode. We were given a "problem" of not having enough School Building Fund to "solve". In the end, we decided to solve this problem through a fund-raising funfair. But before that could happen, we had to go through the planning stage... ...

Then comes......presentation time! Check out the quality of their Powerpoint Presentation slides!
Impressive, eh? :)

After these mind boggling sessions, it's time for hands-on! We decided to use ice-cream sticks to make little containers or gifts and have another section for games. Check out Ryan's masterpiece and others!

Finally, it's the big day! We had to decorate and man our stall.

Here are some of our satisfied customers (including our Principal, fellow schoolmates and siblings).

We were very tired at the end of the whole thing but we were really glad because we raised about $100 plus :) .

This entry is late, but it's better to be late than never, right? So, this is specially created for my little seedlings which have grown into little plants and are now taken care by other gardeners. :)
Those were the days when they were still my seedlings...sigh....how I miss them :p

These were taken on one of their post PSLE activities - Bowling at Downtown East

Other than fun, they also helped out at a Home for the Aged. There, they sang, acted, danced, talked and even fed some of the old folks. There were some touching moments. They definitely brought some joy to the old folks. Well done, I was very proud of u!

Well, I'm sure my little plants are in good hands. Hopefully, they have not forgotten about their old gardener, me. Take care and study hard, my little plants. :) Make me continue to feel proud of u!

It's Total Defence Day on 15/2/06, we had our mock chemical attack exercise.
Here are the photographs taken on that day.

We had to cover the windows with plastic sheets. Check out my macho boys at work.

Here are the girls at work.
They sealed the doors with masking tape.

Of course, in a real emergency, we are expected to stay here for hours, thus we also needed to construct a toilet.

Let's take a peek inside the toilet. Mark gamely posed in the toilet for me.

Well, after this exercise, I concluded that I cannot rely on my macho boys on sealing the windows as they had artistically created tiny holes in the plastic sheets. As for the toilet, before you use it, make sure you've trained your calves muscles.

Traffic Game at Road Safety Park on 15th Feb 2006

My little seedlings had been looking forward to this outdoor activity for a long while.
The day finally arrived and off they went as pedestrians,

go-kart drivers

and cyclists.

They were all given a route card and they had to visit all the stations in the correct sequence.
They had to get the "policemen" (NPCC) to endorse on their route card when they visit a station.

Regardless of role, they were supposed to abide by the traffic rules, if not, they would be given demerit points by the "policemen" on duty.

Armed with their map-reading ability, most of them seemed alright, except for some...

who seemed lost?

The park gives a fairly realistic feel, it not only has traffic lights (they work!) and even a petrol station!

After this activity, will my seedlings be traffic rules abiding citizens? I'm not sure, but I sure know they had enjoyed themselves! I've proof. Check Genson out, he was one happy guy .

As for me? I prefer the real thing! :)

My little actors and actresses of 5 Respect...

trying their hands at acting during English lessons... (acting out a scene in "Wizard of Oz")

They also wrote their own scripts with the help of the well-known fairy tales. They adapted the gist of their stories from the fairy tales and added some twists to them.

Well, being first-timers,

some were really shy,

yet others were just born naturals. (Check them out! :p)

Well, I sure had so much fun watching them. I just hoped my seedlings had as much fun as I did! :)

Welcome to my blog..this is my first attempt, so it's quite an amateur piece of work.

I've been given an impt duty of nurturing a batch of seedlings. I'll try all that I can to give them their due attention, however, I'm not sure of what types of plants they will grow into.
Useful herbs or harmful weeds?? :)
